The neighbouring Meco beach is a wide sand beach, with an extraordinary beauty and internationally recognized for being one of the first naturist beaches in Portugal, being known for some people as the “Mecca of Naturalism”. Today it is best known by its youthful, cool and relaxed atmosphere. Increasable trendy.
For a ‘break’, or for those who prefer calmer beaches Albufeira Lagoon with its calm water and large dunes is a great alternative (just 15min away), we truly suggest spending a day there. In addition, you can also spend some time in the Paradise-like beaches of Serra da Arrábida.
If on the other hand, you are looking to do some sport, or nature and leisure activities you are in a strategic location as the region has a wide and diversified offer of open air experiences: from waking tours through the area, horse riding, mountain biking, bird watching and nautical sports, such as surf, windsurf, kitesurf, scuba diving, fishing or even golf – you can also find 5 internationally recognised golf courses nearby.
Nevertheless, CASA DO MECO is not exclusively a beach destination, but also an exceptional strategic location for a wide range of activities, places to discover and also to visit world-wide recognised monuments.
Start by exploring the imposing Espichel Cape and its Santuary. Take a pleasant trip to fishing-village of Sesimbra, and visit its medieval castle. You can also visit Azeitão villages, Setúbal and Palmela, each one with its castles and historical mood. Be sure to visit the wonderful Arrábida Natural Park, with its calm water beaches and the must-visit Franciscan Convent built in the middle hillside, overlooking the sea, as an isolated retreat for meditation.
We strongly recommended a day-trip into Lisbon, it is worth the visit, with its gorgeous light and charming monuments. Further northwest the area of Cascais-Sintra and its bucolic atmosphere, biological diversity and exquisite Romantic architecture may also demand a visit.
Finally, for music and festival loving ‘youngsters’, Super Bock Super Rock summer festival takes place nearby Meco. Its one of the biggest summer festival in Portugal and brings for 3 days 80.000 people to the area.
